About the piece
I do love the gradient mesh tool, but when it comes to producing rendered faces quickly, it sure tends to slow things down. This piece was an experiment in overlapping gradient shading without the use of gradient mesh – thus simplifying the process and cutting production time down significantly. Thick, simplified lines and shapes were used for the eyes, brows, and lips to ensure that the illustration is still clear, sharp, and bold at small sizes.
Plus, it was just fun to do.
